I have been spending some quality time with John and Yoko’s 1972 classic, Sometime in New York City this morning. Utterly brilliant and unabashedly political. Still controversial, too–this is one album that divides lots of Lennon fans, as its subject matter is beyond radical–prison riots, drug convictions, misogyny, to name a few topics. I have been soliciting opinions on the album from fans on Twitter, and will be interviewing Gary Van Scyoc, who played frequently with John during this period, on Sunday. For my own part, I have been struck by the freshness and vitality that the album continues to project over three decades later. Thoughts?
